Update for UBC Travellers - Boeing 737 Max 8/9 Aircrafts

Wednesday, March 13, 2019

This morning Transport Canada issued a notice closing Canadian airspace to all Boeing 737 Max 8 and 9 aircraft until further notice. The United States Government also announced this afternoon that they would be grounding these aircraft.

North American airlines are working to accommodate affected travellers.

UBC faculty, staff, and students who are planning to travel in the next 72 hours, and have booked their travel through the university’s travel vendor Vision Travel or UBC’s online booking tool Concur, are encouraged to connect with Vision Travel to discuss any necessary rebooking. Please email psi.travel@visiontravel.ca as soon as possible, or phone 604-637-1466 or 1-844-905-3824 (select option 1). Other UBC travellers should contact their travel vendor as soon as possible to discuss arrangements.

It is strongly recommended that all air travel itineraries be verified – on the planned airline’s website – prior to going to the airport. Online check-in is also recommended.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact Travel Program Manager Judith Fograscher at judith.fograscher@ubc.ca.
