Oliver Choo joins as Finance Director, Vice President Research and Innovation

We are pleased to welcome Oliver Choo as Vice President Research and Innovation’s (VPRI) new Finance Director effective March 27, 2023.

Reporting to Matt Boydston, Interim Comptroller and Sharon Wu, Managing Director, Research Support Services, Oliver will be responsible for providing strategic financial leadership within the 16 units of the VPRI portfolio. In addition to managing the portfolio budget of $58M, Oliver will support key initiatives that have significant impact on the research community such as Share Research Platform (SRP).

Oliver comes to us from Faculty of Medicine as the Senior Manager, Finance, Research Support, where he was accountable for financial oversight of all Faculty research activity and developed long term budgets for strategic projects and hires in conjunction with the Faculty Strategic Plan. His deep financial management experience in both operations and research and familiarity with the Financial Planning & Analysis team as well as many of VPRI’s business units will enable a smooth transition into his new role.

Oliver is a graduate of Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a double concentration in Accounting and Finance, as well as a Chartered Professional Accountant.
