Digital Payments – TouchNet

TouchNet facilitates digital payment transactions across UBC. All UBC Faculties and departments can use TouchNet to process digital payments and host online marketplaces. Integrating with Workday, TouchNet can simplify invoice processing.

What is this tool for? 

TouchNet can be used by UBC entities to create a new online storefront or connect with many existing digital products with a sale component. It can support credit card payments and can be tailored to sell products, services, and events. TouchNet marketplaces are customizable and the Digital Payment Program will work with you to help build what you need. See options below.  

Please note, TouchNet marketplaces can currently only accept payments via credit card in Canadian funds. 

TouchNet costs 

Currently, uStores have no monthly software fees. Merchants should consider two fees when evaluating the costs of using TouchNet, based on the dollar value transacted. Custom third-party solutions (i.e., TouchNet partners) have an additional cost. 

Credit Card Transaction Fee Credit card transaction fees are charged by the merchant acquirer, Global Payments, and are dependent on the card card type (Mastercard, Visa) used. In 2021, the average credit card fee across all credit card types was 2.05%.
DPP Cost Recovery Fee DPP fees are charged through a cost recovery model. The current DPP fees are 30 basis points, or $0.003 per dollar transacted.

3. uPay 

Users with non – “TouchNet Ready” partner products such as WordPress and Drupal. Please note: external partners may have additional costs.

  • Requires development work to utilize Mulesoft proxy 
  • The IEC Enhancement Request Form must be completed and approved by Integration Enablement Centre.

How to create a new TouchNet marketplace 

  1. Fill out the form that corresponds with the applicable TouchNet option (see above) and email it to the Digital Payments Program team at dpp.support@ubc.ca.
  2. The Digital Payments Program will work with you to build your TouchNet marketplace and provide you with login information. 

Please note: It can take 2-3 weeks from form submission to development, testing, and launch. Please consider the timeline before you apply. 

Using TouchNet 

Once your TouchNet profile has been setup, you will be emailed temporary login and access information. Once logged in, you will be able to access the TouchNet dashboard, marketplace, and reports depending on your role.

The University of British Columbia (“UBC”) has applied robust privacy and security measures on its Digital Payments Platform (DPP) to help protect against loss, misuse, or unauthorized alteration of the personal information you provide, and to ensure that such personal information is only used in accordance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS, aka PCI) and BC’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (BC FIPPA). 

However, no system is impenetrable, and in no event will UBC be liable for your use of payment functionality. You must understand the risks involved, especially when you use a public or shared computer or access your information using a public or unsecured network connection.

Payment Options 

If you are presenting a credit card for payment, you hereby agree that you are the legal cardholder. If you provide a bank account you hereby agree that you have authority to debit that bank account. 

Privacy & Disclosure 

All terms of privacy and disclosure at the University of British Columbia fall within the guidelines of the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. 

Privacy Notification 

The UBC Digital Payments Platform (DPP) is provided in order for you to manage your payment of fees to UBC.  When you use the DPP, we collect certain personal information from you (such as your name, e-mail address, student ID, bank account numbers, credit card numbers, etc.) in order to provision your use of the DPP and to process your payment transactions and related activities.  UBC collects this information under the authority of Section 26(c) of BC’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (BC FIPPA).  UBC may share some or all of this information with specific third parties for the specific purposes of processing your payment transactions, providing services you have requested, and reporting of financial transactions as required by law.
