University cheque mailing disrupted due to Canada Post strike

Tuesday, November 19, 2024

Canada Post’s operations have shut down as of November 15, due to a national strike. Please expect delays in mail delivery, including cheque delivery for payroll and suppliers.

For employees: receive your pay via direct deposit

The most effective way to receive your pay is through an electronic funds transfer to your personal bank account. You can update your Payment Elections in Workday to add your direct deposit information.

Employees who receive their pay via cheque will be notified directly that they have a cheque available for pickup, along with details of how and when that cheque can be collected. Please bring government-issued identification.

For expense reimbursements and student-related payments

Similar to payroll cheques, employees and students who receive expense reimbursements or payments via cheque will be alerted directly about how and when they can collect their payments in person. Please bring government-issued identification.

For suppliers: receive your payment through electronic funds transfer

The most efficient and effective way to receive payment from UBC is through an electronic funds transfer. However, in-person pickup will be available during the strike for suppliers who receive payment from UBC via cheque.

Until the strike is resolved, suppliers should contact info.support@ubc.ca to inquire whether their cheque has been printed/is available. Supplier cheques will be issued on a weekly basis (new cheques available each Thursday) and will be available for pickup as follows:

Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
5th Floor Reception
Technology Enterprise Facility 3 (TEF3)
6190 Agronomy Road Vancouver, BC Canada V6T 1Z3

Suppliers to the Okanagan campus who would like to pick up cheques in person should contact ubco.procurement@ubc.ca.

Questions?

For any questions, please contact the Integrated Service Centre via self-service (for employees) or info.support@ubc.ca (for suppliers). Normal mailing of all cheques will resume after the strike is resolved. Any cheques that are not picked up will be mailed out at that time.
