WestJet pilots strike: What to do if you have a flight booked through Direct Travel?
Update: The WestJet Group and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), the certified union representing WestJet and Swoop pilots, have reached a tentative agreement late Thursday, May 18, 2023.
WestJet pilots have issued a 72-hour strike notice as of May 16, 2023. Learn more about your options, established by WestJet, for trips booked in Concur or with Direct Travel.
If you are booked to travel from today through May 21, 2023, there are two options:
Cancel your flight
Direct Travel can provide a refund to your original form of payment for travel scheduled between May 15–May 21, 2023, provided you provide a minimum of 4-hour notice in advance of your existing flight time. Please note that your refund may not be processed until late May and a refund fee of $20 will apply.
Alternatively, Direct Travel can hold the impacted ticket as a credit, valid for 13 months from the date of original ticket issuance. WestJet will waive the change fee when you are ready to rebook within that 13-month window. A minimum of 4-hour notice in advance of your existing flight time is also required. Direct Travel's new ticket service fee will be charged when you use the credit.
Initiate a change
To avoid WestJet change fees and fare differences, the first flight of your new round-trip journey booking must depart before June 21, 2023, but the return flight may occur after this date. The difference in fare will apply when rebooking to travel dates after June 21.
Changes completed after June 21 will be subject to regular change rules and applicable fees.
If you are scheduled to start your travel on May 22 and beyond, any changes you choose to make now would be at the regular airline fares and rules.
If you choose not to act, you will be responsible for any fees, penalties and/or additional fares as a result of your decision.
