Tuesday, June 12, 2018

The UBC Finance Support Program took first place in the CAUBO Quality and Productivity (Q&P) Awards Program.

This win recognized the creation of an online training platform that supports administrators in making day-to-day operational decisions, such as managing space and processing financial transactions.

The team behind the Finance Support Program tapped into people across departments to provide feedback during the development phase and to ensure they addressed needs throughout the university.

The 10 modules in the program each contain short videos, and cover these areas:

  • Procurement
  • Accounts Payable
  • Budgeting/Forecasting
  • Internal Reporting
  • Planning
  • External Reporting
  • Inventory/Capital
  • Facilities
  • Revenue
  • Payroll & Positions.

The modules are self-paced, explain key processes and highlight best practices. The program is hosted on the MOOCs training platform and, over the past year, 155 people have completed the training.

The award was presented at the CAUBO 2018 Annual Conference this week. You can read the complete award submission in the CAUBO Quality and Productivity Knowledgebase.

This was the first time UBC created a comprehensive training approach to support administrators and financial personnel in departments. Online training saves hundreds of hours of in-person training time and effort, and allows users to learn at their own speed, leading to an increase in productivity.

In addition, UBC’s Development and Alumni Engagement (DAE) tied for a third place award for two online tools.
