Supply Management & Financial Operations Realignment

Wednesday, August 08, 2018

Financial Operations reorganizes Supply Management and Operations teams to improve customer service and enhance value.

As part of the Procurement Modernization project, Financial Operations has reorganized our Supply Management and Financial Operations department. This realignment will make it easier and simpler for faculty and staff to buy and pay for goods and services, improve value to the university, and help us build a foundation for implementation of the Integrated Renewal Program’s Workday technology and processes.

Reporting to Director Shelly Morrison, the Supply Management and Financial Operations department will now consist of four customer-centric, value-driven teams:

Accounts Payable
Thomas Straley will lead this team to improve turnaround times and customer experience by harmonizing processes across UBC.

Customer Support
Jennifer Brunt will lead this new team to create a positive experience for Faculties and Departments by providing enhanced assistance and support. The team’s responsibilities will be to provide and enhance Customer Support for Financial Operations with general inquiries, brokerage and logistics, and the credit card program. The training function has been added to this group to ensure courses are planned and offered to match customer requirements.

Procurement Services
This new team will support Faculties and administrators who have requisitions, purchases, and competitive bidding processes with additional assistance with buying, sourcing decisions, and harmonizing processes to improve sourcing turnaround times. We will be recruiting for the new Procurement Services Manager role in the near future. In the meantime, team members will continue to report to either Jennifer Brunt or Michael Frost.

Strategic Sourcing
This new team’s objective is to identify and implement opportunities to deliver value (service, quality and price) by leveraging UBC’s buying power and establishing preferred vendors and contracts to make buying easier and faster. This team will be working closely with Faculties and Admin Units to identify and implement opportunities to ensure the best strategies are identified, and the resulting contracts meet user requirements and deliver value to UBC. We will be recruiting for the Strategic Sourcing Manager role in the near future and, in the meantime, this team will be led by Michael Frost.

In addition, Michael Frost has accepted a new role as Strategic Project Lead. In this role, Mike will be responsible for the development and implementation of new strategic projects to support the Supply Management and Financial Operations department across all areas.

What does this mean to you?

For our customers, it is business as usual. Over the next few months as we implement our new Service Delivery Model our team members will advise you of any changes.

As we continue to harmonize processes across UBC, we believe our realignment will help improve our service so that buying and paying for goods and services are easier and faster for faculty and staff, deliver increased value, as well as build the foundation for Supply Management and Finance to adopt the new Workday solution.
